Setting: This chapter happens when Red Guards are searching everybody’s houses, and searching everybody’s houses and seizing their possessions is the historical event that happen in this chapter.
Plot: The entire country is talking about “Destroying the Four Olds”. The Red Guard were searching everybody’s houses and seizing people’s possessions. They took everything from Old Lady Rong’s apartment. Ji Li and Ji Yong take their grandma to the clinic. Ji Yong is so cocky that he almost loses his control of the pedicab. But they make it to the clinic safely. Ji Li’s mom fires Song Po Po, because the government does not allow the employment of housekeepers.
Characters: I learned that Chairman Mao is a little harsh, because then everyone will be affected and will have to fire them if they have one. Even kind and helpful Ji Li’s mom has to fire Song Po Po who worked in Ji Li’s house.
Analysis: This chapter is important to the story, because this is one of the reasons why there are two groups divided which are supporting Chairman Mao and not supporting Chariman Mao.
